Saltin’ the Cows
Patrick is working with Crazy Alice these days. She’s a two year old filly here on the ranch.
He loaded a pack saddle with two hundred pounds of salt and led her out to the cattle. Cows need iodine in their diet just like we do.
We walked her through the cattle, tagged calves, and made small commotions to get her used to the real world.
Putting weight on her and walking her through the cows is a way to get her warmed up to an eventual ride. Stay tuned for that. I’ll be standing on the outside of the pen to tell Patrick what happened when he gets bucked off!

I had a poster a long time ago from Marlboro and it was a panorama of the west in different seasons with mountains and deserts and the Marlboro Man by a campfire. The caption said “Live Large”. I think about that image everyday when I shoot out here.

Nice! My former boss has an old bay mare by the same name. She’s close to thirty and quite thin now. Glad to see there is a young one to take her place. 🙂

Awe! As long as she stops running herself into the fence every time he tries to catch her, she’ll stick around. Ugh. But she’s young and a little stubborn. I can’t wait to see how she turns out.

Boy, do I know what you mean about bucked off. Been there a few times. I now have a yearling filly and her mom. She seems really fond of me as I can’t even go out of the house without her whinning at me. Of course, I like that. Hope all goes as well when she is old enough to ride. Working towards that now of course.
