There is often a sculpture on the sunny window ledge behind the curtain. She’s orange and fuzzy and wear’s a smile when she’s there.

Tilda Tuesday: the Best Seat in the House

When the temperature was below zero many days last week, Matilda took up residence right up against the wood stove. I can’t blame her though. I stood there a few times myself.
Today the snow is blowing and melting at a fast pace and it looks like we will have warmer temperatures this week.
Have a happy Tilda Tuesday!

Tilda Tuesday: Bella

“You stay out there, I stay in here. We’ll get along better that way.”- Matilda, 2013

I shot this last May when we were in our temporary home in the hills after moving from the ranch. May 1st we had a gazillion inches of snow on the ground. Well, it felt like a gazillion. It was up to my waist in some spots. Anyway, this is Bella, the Pyrenees watch dog. She watches over the chickens, ducks, and goats of this homestead and she could not figure out why there was a cat inside and why couldn’t she get to it through that glass. It took a couple weeks for Bella to stop throwing herself against the glass barking trying to get Matilda.
And before you get all “awe poor Bella, she should be let inside from the cold.” This girl has a coat on her thicker than anything you can buy in a sporting goods store and she would be so miserable if she had to be indoors. She frolics through the snow like it’s not even there. She’s happiest in cold temps. Plus, she has to a job to do.

Feels like we are getting a zillion inches of snow today. It’s been snowing since early morning, before the sun came up, and it’s still coming down.

Happy Tilda Tuesday everyone. She is under the covers and will most likely not come out until June. 🙂

Tilda Tuesday: Dashing through the…NO.

Dashing through the snow is not on the agenda….ever.

Matilda thought she wanted to go outside even though the deck turned all white. As soon as she stepped out, she hightailed it right back inside before I could say I told ya so. She’s still my little warm weather Georgia girl.

Speaking of, my Georgia family is supposed to get snow today. You guys hang in there, keep the cats in, and enjoy it!

Tilda Tuesday: her Camera, take two

Cats make life a little sweeter.

This shot cracks me up. Matilda was so not amused and wouldn’t give me eye contact for quite  a while.
This is an outtake from the shoot with her camera we did a few months ago. Hope it makes you smile. 🙂

Matilda never misses her morning, afternoon and evening naps. She doesn’t let bath time get in the way either.
Happy Tilda Tuesday!

Patrick snapped this a couple years ago during a Matilda and Momma snuggle session. I love her little tootsies in this one. Snuggle sessions are a great way to wind down from these busy times we live in. I hope you will be able to slow down during the hustle and bustle of the holidays. It does a body (and a kitty) good. 😉
Happy Tilda Tuesday!

Tilda Tuesday: Free Thinker

“You know you can’t tell a cat nothin’ sweetheart.”- Skip Yetter (my Dad)

We are having windspeeds up to 65mph and it’s cold cold cold. But Matilda still thinks she wants to go outside. Even though I tell her and warn her that it’s miserable, she just doesn’t listen. I let her out and in less than 30 seconds she’s shivering and hollering to come back in. My dad and I were laughing about this the other day and he said the quote above in his best southern drawl. I thought it was funny. 🙂

Tilda Tuesday: Peekaboo Kitteh

If only cats grew into kittens. – R. Stern

Here is one from the early days when she was about 3 or 4 months old. I got Matilda when I was a year out of high school and I lived with several girlfriends in an old house in the historic district of my hometown. I kept her indoors but she would often disappear and reappear with the dirtiest paws I had ever seen. I stalked her one day only to find out she found a hole in the foyer wall and was exploring the entire house inside the walls! One day she came out of the cabinet underneath the sink. Her own secret passageway from the foyer to the kitchen. She found a whole new world in there. Oh kittens, what fun they can be. 🙂
Edited-PS: I spelled “Kitteh” on purpose. It’s fun to pronounce it “Kitteh”.

Tilda Tuesday: Jungle Kitty

I did this little photo shoot with Matilda a long time ago. She liked to sun herself on the AC unit outside my apartment and there was a gorgeous weeping willow beside it. I had just gotten a new camera and who better than her to help me test it out. Every time I look at the top left image, I imagine her saying “hey, come on mom, join me won’t you?” 🙂

I am so thankful for my little muse. Happy Tilda Tuesday everyone! xoxo

Matilda had a bladder infection a couple weeks ago. It was very tough on her because she is so old. I thought I lost her actually. But I noticed it right away and got her in to the vet first thing the next morning. Poor girl. After two weeks of antibiotics, she has perked up and is back to her ornery self.
This image depicts those two weeks. Tilda in her soft kitty bed with extra blankets by the fire; pretty much her go-to spot these days.

Matilda is no stranger to snow. I shot this back in 2002 during one of our bizarre and very rare Georgia snows. She didn’t know what to think. I’ll let her decide if she wants to step into a Wyoming snow this winter. I’m betting not but that girl surprises me every day.

Happy Tilda Tuesday friends!

Matilda loved my mother. When mom came to my apartment, Matilda came out from wherever she was snoozing to get in her lap. In fact any and all cats loved that woman and she loved them right back.
I shot this sometime in ’06 after mom went through months of hefty chemotherapy treatments. Her hair was growing back in and she was feeling pretty good.

This Thursday marks 7 years since mom passed. I thought this would be a fitting shot for today’s Tilda Tuesday.
Have a good one friends!

Tilda Tuesday: Keeping Warm

Matilda has a new spot. Lately I’ve been finding her crouched by the wood stove that we just installed. She would cozy right up to it so I grabbed her bed and put it on the hearth for her. That’s her hearth now.

In her younger days, Matilda brought me many surprises. A couple days before this portrait, I remember it very well, she left me chipmunk remains on the front porch. On this particular day, I rescued another chipmunk from her claws. I just wasn’t in the mood to clean up any more carnage. She appeared disgusted and wouldn’t look at me the rest of the day.

Tilda Tuesday: Exploration

Posted in Matilda, Photography by leahyetter on October 8, 2013

The lol (little old lady) got a special treat yesterday. While Patrick and a friend worked on installing our wood stove, I stacked wood onto our porch. With the doors wide open, Matilda took it upon herself to carefully step outside. And I let her.

©Leah Yetter Photographer

She used to be an indoor/outdoor cat but after the many vet bills from injuries and cat fights, I decided the geriatric years will be spent indoors with me.  Since I was going to be outside all evening, I thought she could enjoy it with me.

©Leah Yetter Photographer

And she did enjoy it. She rolled in the dirt, ate grass and chased bugs.

©Leah Yetter Photographer

She did not venture far from me and was always watching her back.

When I was done stacking wood, I looked around and didn’t see her. I walked the perimeter of the house and still couldn’t find her. So I came inside and discovered that she put herself to bed. She was curled up for the night. In the old days, I would have been hollering out for her for a half hour until she decided to come home.

Like any kitty, Matilda loves her window seats. In fact she’s sitting in my office window as I type this.
