Roadside Fog
It’s that time of year for those misty, cool mornings that slowly introduce us to autumn. So of course, my camera and I rolled out for an adventure with some roadside fog on one of those mornings.
Next door neighbor, a longhorn cow, having her breakfast.
Field of sugar beets.
Red Angus are grazing in the background. They weren’t visible when I set up for this shot. So I waited for them to get a little closer.
This road runs alongside an already harvested corn field.
Flock of blackbirds “swimming” in the thick fog.
Sunflowers started blooming early this summer and are still popping up in our yard. They are a bright spot on such a gray day.
Intersection on the way home. Our mailboxes are enveloped in the dense fog up ahead.
These views are seen daily from the windshield of our cars and trucks but it looks completely different when it’s underneath a heavy fog.
Taking time to notice our everyday surroundings can be very soothing and even inspiring. I encourage you to the same. Hope you’ve enjoyed these images and may they bring some peace and quiet to your busy day.
Cheers!
Foggy Mornings
It is continuing to be a beautiful fall season. These foggy mornings make me feel British. 🙂
A Snowy Walk Through Fog and Mist
It’s no secret that one of my favorite weather events is the misty, dewy fog that hangs heavy in the air some mornings during the fall and winter months.
The clouds dusted us with snow yesterday so there was just an inch or two on the ground this morning when I awoke. I rolled out of bed, got right into my coveralls and grabbed a camera for a wander to the meadows.
It was so still and quiet. All I could hear was the swish of my clothes and the crunch of ice under my boots.
It looked like a different world. And it wasn’t even that cold. Just peaceful.
The girls were all there and greeted me from a distance. They are grateful, as am I, that the snow over the holidays has mostly melted and that this little bit hasn’t covered the grass much.
The fog lifted late morning and the sun is melting the snow this afternoon. The winter cycle continues….
Turqoise Sunrise
The leaves have all but dropped but I grabbed this scene early one morning a couple weeks ago. As the sun slowly rose, the light was a rich turquoise for a few moments through the thick fog. A day late for a Halloween photo but it’s kinda spooky, eh? 🙂
Hope you all had a safe and happy Halloween.
The Dew was On
Scenes from a foggy, misty weekend.
And I’ll tellya, we had to build a fire a couple of nights this weekend.
Ahem… yes, it’s June.
Frozen Fog
Yesterday morning we awoke to a thick, frozen fog lingering over us. It was beautiful.
The cows didn’t think it was all that great as their coats were covered in said frozen fog.
A bald eagle took off from the trees but flew pretty low. I don’t think they fly very well when there is a heavy freeze and moisture in the air.
I looked to the east hoping I’d see the sun rising but all I saw was barely a glow.
When I looked to the west, the sky was trying to come through the haze. It didn’t clear out until noon when the wind came up and blew the snow into drifts. But do not fear my friends, it started to snow again today.
*Sigh*
I’ll tell Winter what Rachel told Joey on the TV show Friends. “Oh honey, at least you’re pretty.”
November Mist: Horses
Baby knows better than to talk to strangers. She took one look at me and turned away waiting for momma. This was a sweet few minutes in the quiet of a foggy morning.

November Mist: Landscapes
If you are a regular here, you know how much I love a foggy morning. Just type in “fog” or “mist” in the search bar and it’ll prove it. We had another one yesterday morning so I geared up and took a wander to capture the peace and quiet. I’ll narrate, but only in a whisper.
Tumbleweeds are devouring our fences.
The harvested cornfields are only inhabited by stems and more tumbleweeds.
Couldn’t see but just a few feet ahead of me.
The barbwire fences were chilly and frosted.
There is a deer out there but I could only hear her.
Again, tumbleweeds line the fences. This will cause a lot of drifting when heavy snow arrives.
This pivot will most likely be winterized and retired for the next few months.
I’ll share the rest with you another time. I hope this brought some stillness to your busy day.
The Best I Can Boo!
The sun is shining today but the wind is howling. Tumbleweeds are flying and dirt is swirling.
These images are from our last fog and misty morning. It’s the best I could come up with for a spooky themed day.
Enjoy your spooky day!
Hushed
We’ve been enjoying wet weather for the past 36 hours or so. A soft rain started falling two evenings ago and a thick fog hung over us all day yesterday and still lingers this morning. We welcome the cool air and I bet the ground is enjoying a drink.
I photographed this quiet scene a day after the cowboys worked cattle from sun up to sun down. I wasn’t there but I heard about it. And that’s all I have to say about that.
Hope your Thursday is cool and tranquil. Friday is almost here folks. 🙂
