First Saddling

Posted in Cowboy, Photography by leahyetter on May 6, 2015

©Leah Yetter Photographer This young horse hasn’t worn a saddle much and had to learn how to back out of the barn. It’s all about trust between cowboy and horse. When Patrick saw this image, it made him think of the Charlie Russell painting “Bronc for Breakfast”. Quickly noticing the dust and dirt in this image, he said the next shot would be the bronc bucking around the corral as soon as he left the barn. Happy to say that didn’t happen. He stayed tied to the fence post and was well behaved.

Exquisite shot. Love the light in the airborne dust.

Is this monochrome, or full colour?

Even sweeter, when the light itself defines the pallette. 🙂

I agree. I thought about going sepia but like you say, the light defined the palette so there just was no need. I barely touched this image. A little auto contrast and some sharpening. It came right out of the camera screaming to be seen.

Gorgeous photo! I love the light coming in through the dust, and the back lit subjects. Very atmospheric.

Love this shot ~ nothing quite like working the land. Grew up in Pendleton, OR (home of the Pendleton Round Up), and nothing quite like a good horse (and a camera!).

Is this the same young horse that was so upset when Patrick got the older grey ready for branding work earlier this spring?

Hi Cal! Nope, this one is at the neighbors. Gray helped us get him into the corral the other day and I’ll have pics of that soon. Thanks for asking!

Iconic (unlike the Charlie Russell painting).
