Mad About Trains

I’m quite partial to trains. It’s probably because my nephews are so fond of them. (<— understatement)
My brother and sister-in-law know every song and every name of the characters in the Thomas phenomena. Bless them.  When I visit, we are either playing with the train sets or I am tasked with drawing and coloring trains. I’ll share my photos of trains with them sometime and see if they approve.
Have a great weekend!

Very nice, love the pastel colours and the lovely light. I am partial to train tracks and all the wonderful grafitti art to be found and now you are reminding me about travelling in Europe. Riding those rails back in the day chasing European boys from one country to another. Ha!! Thanks for the beautiful post and you have a happy weekend as well. cheers!

Ha! Love it! I like the graffiti art as well. I shot one on the salt flats in Utah and it was quite colorful. Made me think of Athens, Greece.

yep…also partial to trains. I try to catch them at the Indian Mounds and Rose Hill Cemetary. My grand-daddy was a train engineer, so I was around them all the time..and, of course while in high school we use to ride the Nancy Hanks from Macon to Atlanta and back.

Trains are/were a real interest to me–the graffiti was a bonus. But for the last 6 years I’ve lived within 700 feet of a busy intersection with an X-crossing…and another two about 1/2 mile in opposite directions. I counted the trains when I first moved there and there were something like 42 a day (and night). The engineers were required to signal their approach to the intersections with multiple bursts on their air-horns. Some of the engineers must have been Thomas fans when they were small because it seemed to be their fondest wish to see just how many “bursts” they could fit in between the three crossings. I got so accustomed to the sound of the trains and the air-horns that half the time I didn’t even hear them. My early enthusiasm to seeing the cars/art rush past my patio soon faded due to the frequency of their passing. I’ve since moved and am well over a mile from the tracks, but at night, when it’s very quiet, I can hear the rumble of the diesels and the hum of the tracks long before I hear the air-horns. Am hoping that I will soon re-discover my fondness for watching trains go by…their sound in the distance calls to me. ;o)

    Great picture, BTW!

This photo inevitably brings a tune to my mind: “Good morning, America, how are you? Don’t you know me, I’m your native son. I’m the train they call the City of New Orleans, …”. This Arlo Guthrie song is one of my all time favorites. I like the light in this picture, by the way, and the interesting perspective. My husband loves trains and dearly treasures the collectibless from his childhood. There is a place called “miniature wonderland” in Hamburg that shows the largest exhibition of model railways in the world. We haven’t yet made it, but a visit is definitely one of our midterm goals.
