summer haze and a staring contest

Posted in Nature, Photography by leahyetter on June 26, 2012

We had a hard rain yesterday. And with a hard rain comes lightning strikes causing more fires. Colorado has it way worse than we do but we are fighting our share.
Patrick and I trailed cattle on horseback yesterday morning and could smell the smoke the entire time.

Once the sun came out after the rain yesterday evening, the smog over the hills was so thick.

But on to happier thoughts, the bucks are growing their antlers and are still in the velvet.
Just look at this happy family.

We had a staring contest. I won because they took off quickly after I shot this. Bambi and father ran together for a while until they found mom again.

Hope everyone stays safe with regards to the fires. ‘Tis the season, unfortunately.
The pictures are – as usual – wonderful. I walked upon a buck during a morning walk this week. He and I had a little staring contest, too.

Thanks Lenore! Isn’t it funny? I love staring and seeing how long I can hold their attention before they run off.

That first picture is wonderful. I love all the layers in it; it’s almost 3-D.

Gosh, that first photograph is gold. Thank you for sharing and let’s all do a little bit of a rain dance for our friends affected by this wildfire season!

Thank you. Yes, but last time I danced we got a tornado. I gotta be careful. 😉

Lovely shots, as always. I wondered today if you were near any of the fires. We are having a really tough time down here in Colorado, and it feels like it’s getting worse by the hour. We need some rain to go with our lightning!

Oh honey I know! We aren’t having near the trouble that you guys in colorful Colorado is experiencing. My heart is so sad for the land and people there. I said almost that same thing to Patrick the other day while we were watching lightning strikes. I said, “I hope those are striking where the rain is falling”. Ugh, unfortunately that is not the case.

Leah, I’m sending good thoughts that you all stay safe from the fires. Being able to smell the smoke is pretty scary, but maybe the fire isn’t heading in your direction. Photos were wonderful as always. I’m continually amazed at how calm you are when it comes to taking pictures in difficult times or dangerous situations. Good for you! God bless.

Thanks Suzy, the particular fire we smell isn’t close. It just depends on the wind whether we smell it or not. But we have a long time until snow so fire is inevitable. Pretty scary.
Thank you for your kind words!
