Twins!
We got a set of twins this morning. The momma is only accepting one.
So I’ll be momma for a while.
We’ll draft this little booboo onto a cow that loses her calf in the future. But for now, I need to head out to give her a hit of colostrum and some milk.
We’re almost done calving out the black cows, now it’s time for the reds. ♥
Congrats and Good Luck!

Good to see a photo of YOU! Have fun with the baby, it’s just too sweet. I love the little baby teeth and I especially love when they come running to “momma” for their bottle. Fun, fun, fun!!!

Those little teeth are sharp! He’s not taking the bottle very well and trying to get the nipple in his mouth has been a chore!

You twin looks quite mellow. We had a set of twins born the other day and feel lucky that mom is taking care of both. Like you, one calf is considered a “spare” should we lose a calf. I am not sure it is always so great to have twins as they usually mean extra work. Good luck with your baby!

Extra work is right! He was born too early so yesterday he was quite mellow. We thought about locking momma up with both calves but this guy was limp and couldn’t stay on his hooves all day yesterday. But gosh he’s a tough little booger today. He’s bouncing all around but won’t take the bottle. I can’t fool him! He comes to my hum and follows me around but won’t suck. I’ll let him get good and hungry and then try to feed him again a little later.

Bum calves are so fun but also a little stressful. He’s a little spitfire this morning but doesn’t like the bottle. I’m just not anything like a momma cow and he knows it. I’m not fooling him! Hopefully he’ll want the bottle a little later.

I know! I love the sweet face. And his eyelashes are the longest I’ve ever seen!

I am certain you’ll make a great Mommy, too, Leah. Thanks for taking care of the unaccepted one.

I’m just not the same as a momma cow. The little booger does not like this powdered milk and the bottle just doesn’t satisfy. But he’s jumping around and is a little spitfire this morning. I’ll let him play and get good and hungry and go back and see if he’ll take it.

I love these photos! I grew up in the country. My grandfather had a ranch and there I watched the birth of many calves. Growing up with animals and respecting their lives made me become a vegetarian.

I’ve fed my share of baby calves, and I loved every minute of it. Those were fun times. My aunt put some kind of vitamin supplement in the milk, though, and boy, did it stink! The calves can be pretty demanding, too, and I’ve been head butted more than once. Thanks for posting the pictures; I enjoyed my stroll down memory lane that they inspired. Good luck with your baby, by the way!

Thanks Janet! Yeah, he’s a handful and LOVES his feeding time. I can’t get in the pin with him anymore. It can be painful!
Thanks for stopping by. 🙂

I’m glad to hear that he’s been adopted. We human mommas do our best, but there’s no replacement for the real thing!
