It’s Another Girl!

Kate had her baby girl yesterday morning as I was reporting to you about Poco and her filly.

We walked up quietly just to check from a distance to make sure mom and baby were well.
She was up and sucking….

…and still learning how to work those long legs.

This bald eagle was circling, I don’t think he posed a threat but he probably smelled the brand new life and was just as curious as we were.

I checked on them later in the afternoon and her nose was covered in milk. Momma seemed tired.

So they both went down for a nap. Good work first time mom.
Kate loves her baby.
So do I.

Oh my gosh!! Seriously, my tear ducts are at risk of drying up. Leah, I drove to work this morning, looking forward to a post from you with new pictures. I absolutely love living vicariously through your camera lens. My love for horses is huge – these past couple of days have been wonderful. Will you keep the fillies?

Awe Lenore, I hope your eyes aren’t TOO red and swollen! So glad you are liking these…just wait ’til we start calving.
Since these fillies were a surprise Patrick isn’t sure what we’re going to do with them just yet. We are waiting for the papers from the owner of the stud to see who they are out of. Why do you ask, want one? 😉

I know Cassie, tell me about it! I about cried when that happened. And just as the foal walked up to her, Kate rolled on her back playfully and made her jump. It was precious. I got so caught up in it, I didn’t shoot it. So sweet!

Me too! There is always worry during the winter months. Sometimes it gets too cold for the littles to survive but so far, it’s been pretty mild.

I loved this story and especially the photos. How wonderful to have such great surprises. Perhaps it bodes well for the remainder of the year. Beautiful foals! Thanks so much.

Awe, is it that obvious I wear my heart on my sleeve? Yeah, I know it is and sometimes I think I’m too tender for life out here. I witness the circle of life more than I’d like probably but it’s good for me to face it all.
I’m so glad you are enjoying these as much as I enjoy reporting on the sweet surprises. Thank you Melissa. 🙂
